What I see (and what I understand from the info we get and compare with my own experience - I am a senior software tester, but alas not for games) the project is a fairly normal, boring software development project with milestones and delays and setbacks and revamps.

Is SC development moving slower than it could if they would cut some corners ? I think so. However despite "Descent" being a far smaller project it's been on since 2015 and we haven't seen much of that either. CI are working on gameplay for tracking Enabling players to track criminals via a mobiGlas security app linked to distress beacons, comm arrays, air traffic control systems, cameras, and NPC informants. Let me put that into the proper pespective for you: One of the early figureheads of Star Citizen, Eric "Wingman" Petersen did his own Kickstarter project, a follow up to the classic "Descent". People have no clue how much effort large software projects require and come up with apple-orange comparisions "oh but game xy took much less time". I understand that many people love to critisize SC for their development speed (and I expect I will get a ton of downvotes for not joining in) but quiet frankly that's just nonsense.
